Telcos Will Be Offered Less Than 20 Cents per Gigabit for 5G Services

Today, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz announced the cost of 5G services in Dewan Rakyat after the Minister of Communications and Telecommunications revealed that the government is working to make 5G more affordable than 4G. Apparently, telecommunication companies will be offered less than 20 cents per gigabit under the national 5G roll out plan.

The minister said, "It will be less than 20 cents per gigabit offered to the companies for 5G, which is way cheaper if compared to the incremental cost of between 45 cents to 55 cents per gigabit offered by telcos for their 4G services."

According to the Finance Minister, each telco is expected to pay DNB between RM3.5 billion to RM4 billion over a 10-year period, or RM350 million to RM400 million a year on average, which is "way less than the RM1 billion invested by telcos a year to develop 4G."He also added that this way, telcos will be able to save more than 50% and thus reduce the price charged on the Malaysian consumers.
