Samsung has announced the launch of One UI 3, a new upgrade that’s limited to Galaxy S20 devices for now.
Visual clarity and helpfulness is heavily-emphasized with the update. One UI 3 features a new interface where commonly-accessed features like the home screen, lock screen, and notifications have been “visually enhanced to highlight important information”. There are also new visual effects like Dim/Blur for notifications.
In addition, there are redesigned widgets for both the Home screen and Lock screen. The widget redesign is meant to make the Home screen look neater and more stylish, and to allow for music control and important information access on the Lock screen without needing to unlock the device. There is also an edge-to-edge full screen video call layout”.
Aside from visual convenience, One UI 3 is bringing smoother motion effects and animation as well as natural haptic feedback. There are also camera improvements, easier photo-finding, better UI customization, apps that record your usage habits, and more. It will also allow users to have separate work and personal profiles.
Samsung has already began rolling out the One UI 3, which will be available with Android 11. It will first be on Galaxy S20 Series devices in Korea, the US, and “most markets in Europe” before “gradually” expanding availability to other regions. The update will also become available on other devices like the Galaxy Note 20, Z Fold 2, Z Flip, Note 10, Fold and S10 series “in the coming weeks” and on Galaxy A devices in the first half of 2021.
