Disney has finally revealed the release date and pricing for Disney+ Hotstar in Malaysia.
According to the Disney+ My Twitter account, the streaming service, which includes Marvel Cinematic Universe shows like WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, will arrive in Malaysia on June 1. The streaming service will cost RM54.90 for three months.
It is currently unknown if the RM54.90 per three months deal is Disney+ Hotstar’s sole subscription option. Major competitor Netflix offers several monthly subscription tiers with different prices and perks.
Aside from desktop browsers, the streaming platform will be available on App Store and Google Play as well as compatible Media Streaming Devices and Smart TVs. Astro customers who have the Astro Movies Pack will also be able to access Disney+ Hotstar as a “Special Entitlement”. In an FAQ document spotted by Lowyat.net, it was stated that those with the Astro Movies Pack will be charged an extra RM5 per month from June 1 even if they did not activate their Disney+ Hotstar access. The activation page for Disney+ Hotstar is set to become available here on June 1.
According to the Disney+ Hotstar landing page, Disney+ Hotstar’s offerings will include shows from Pixar, Star Wars, National Geographic, and others in addition to Marvel movies and series. These offerings include the popular The Mandalorian series and the live stage recording of broadway play Hamilton. There will also be local titles such as Ejen Ali the Movie, KL Special Force, and Zombitopia.
In total, there will be over 800 movies and 18,000 episodes on the streaming service.
