XDA Announces F(x)tec Pro1-X Smartphone

XDA has announced a new phone called the F(x)tec Pro1-X, which it calls the “world’s first phone to run LineageOS out of the box”.

The phone was made to offer options outside of Android and iOS. “Even the best Android phones require rooting to be able to truly customize the experience,” said XDA in its post. “Now, there’s more than just two options: the Pro1-X doesn’t only run LineageOS; there are also variants available running Ubuntu Touch OS and Android, and we’re actively exploring other platforms.”

The Pro1-X has an 8MP front camera, 12MP primary camera, and 5MP secondary camera. It’s based off F(x)tec’s F(x)tec Pro1, and thus shares the same slide-out (from the back) 66-key full QWERTY keyboard, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, fingerprint scanner, dedicated camera button, and other features like USB-C and HDMI output. However, it has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, as opposed to the Pro1’s 6GB and 128GB.

The Pro1-X will cost US$899 (~RM3,736), but a limited number is being offered to the XDA community for US$639 (~RM2655). There is also a pre-early bird offer of US$599 (~RM2,489). Shipping will have a flat fee of US$40 (~RM166).

XDA says that it plans to ship early bird orders before Christmas and the “majority of orders” in March 2021. The phone will only be available during the duration of its Indiegogo campaign. You can find out more at the Pro1-X’s Indiegogo page here.
