Twitter Rolls Out Automatic Captions Feature for Videos

Twitter is rolling out auto-generated captions for videos in over 30 languages, including English, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Hindi, and many more. It will be available on Android, iOS, and web.

The automatic captions will only appear on newly uploaded videos on Twitter so the old ones still won't have them. The downside is Twitter won't let you edit the captions so there's no way to correct any inaccurate or bad captions. You can't report the captions too.

The company was heavily criticised when it launched voice tweets without captions in 2020 and later it was discovered that Twitter didn't have a dedicated accessibility team at that time. Now that it has two teams focusing on accessibility, we expect to see how it will improve the features on the platform.
