Sony Announces Smaller WF-1000XM4 with LDAC, Pre-Orders Available

Sony’s WF-1000XM3 now has a successor in the form of the WF-1000XM4, which is up for pre-order until July 15 for RM1,099.

The WF-1000XM4 sports a 10% smaller form than its ‎RM849 predecessor from 2019, while its charging case is 40% smaller. Its noise cancellation capabilities make use of a combination of Integrated Processor V1, a feed-forward and feed-back microphone per ear, a 6mm driver unit with 20% more magnet volume, and Automatic Wind Noise Reduction. There’s also the Noise Isolation Earbud Tips, which use a soft and elastic “unique polyurethane foam material” that “maximises the surface contact area between the earbud tip and the ear canal”.

For sound quality, the new ear buds have High-Resolution Audio Wireless support via LDAC. They have an Integrated Processor V1 for better sound and reduced distortion, as well as enabling LDAC codec processing and DSEE Extreme. Other listening features include Adaptive Sound Control, the WH-1000XM4’s Speak-to-Chat, and Quick Attention. The WF-1000XM4 has instant pause and play to pause and resume music automatically when they’re removed, with its proximity sensor detecting whether one or both earbuds are in.

Other features include Precise Voice Pickup, Google Assistant, an improved Bluetooth connection, IPX4 water resistance, Fast Pair, 360 Reality Audio, and a more stable fit. For battery, Sony says that the WF-1000XM4 can manage eight hours of use and 16 with its case; five minutes of quick-charging is said to provide 60 minutes of use. The ear buds can use Qi charging.

The WF-1000XM4 comes with three sizes of Noise Isolation Earbud Tips, a USB-C charging cable, and plastic free packaging. Black and Silver options are available. Its Qi Compatible Wireless Charging Pad is typically sold separately, but the pre-order page lists it as a gift.
