Pocketpair Publishing has announced that CASSETTE BOY, a puzzle action RPG developed by Wonderland Kazakiri inc., will launch on January 15, 2026, alongside a newly released trailer. The game has already made waves in Japan’s indie scene, earning a Visual Excellence Award nomination, winning the BitSummit Awards 2024 Grand Prize, and being featured in the Tokyo Game Show 2024 Selected Indie 80 lineup.
A Unique Puzzle-Action RPG Created by a Solo Developer
CASSETTE BOY is the latest title from Wonderland Kazakiri inc., a small studio based in Akihabara, Tokyo. While the team typically works on web design and system development, it also creates indie games on the side. For this project, Mr. Honda handled everything from planning, programming, art and audio, bringing CASSETTE BOY to life as a solo project.
An Adventure with Plenty to Offer
CASSETTE BOY combines puzzle gameplay with classic RPG elements to create a rewarding main adventure. For players who enjoy extra content, the game also offers mini-games on in-game “devices” and procedurally generated dungeons, adding depth and replayability for those who like to explore beyond the main story.
New Trailer:
“Do you really believe the moon isn’t there when you’re not looking?”
This famous quote, often attributed to Einstein, questions the strange nature of quantum mechanics. Inspired by this idea, CASSETTE BOY is a puzzle action RPG set in a world where things cease to exist when they can’t be seen.
Explore this mysterious world, confront its bizarre puzzles and creatures, and manipulate “existence” itself to uncover the truth!

Twist and Rotate the World

While CASSETTE BOY may look like a simple pixel-art title, its world is far more dynamic. The seemingly 2D environment is actually 3D, allowing players to rotate the map and change what is visible — or even what exists. Puzzle-solving relies on shifting perspectives to hide obstacles or reveal hidden paths.
Beyond puzzles, the game also features combat, letting players collect weapons and face off against monsters and bosses.

Choose what Exists with the “Schrödinger System”

The state of matter is only defined once you observe it.
In CASSETTE BOY, the “Schrödinger System” ensures that anything you can’t see simply doesn’t exist. That person you just spoke to? The switch you were about to press? If they leave the screen, they’re gone.
Ordinary camera movement becomes the key to solving mind-bending puzzles.
