Sci-fi Rogue-lite Crying Suns is This Week’s Epic Games Store Freebie

This week’s Epic Games Store freebie is a tactical rogue-lite with space exploration and spaceship fights.

Released in 2019, Crying Suns describes itself as “FTL meets Foundation...and Dune”. In the game’s setting, the Galactic Empire has fallen, and mankind’s survival lies in the far-off planet and secret facility Gehenna. Your character is a clone of “the best Imperial Admiral ever to battle in the stars”, woken by the last functional member of the “god-like” OMNI machines.

“Your mission: skillfully command a battleship through the Empire's now chaotic, violent clusters––where one wrong move could be your last–– as you try to reactivate the OMNIs and save the future of all humankind,” reads the game’s description.

Among the game’s features are a procedurally-generated universe, tactical fights between “battleships and their squadron fleets”, and a six-chapter story. The game also claims to have over 300 potential story events and a “dark and disturbing” atmosphere inspired by sci-fi titles like Battlestar Galactica and Dune.

You can grab Crying Suns over here. If it doesn’t sound like your kind of sci-fi video game, next week will see the Celebration Edition of Star Wars: Battlefront 2 being given away.
