POCO has officially introduced the new POCO X8 in Malaysia, positioning the smartphone as an endurance-focused device built around a massive battery, a large display and improved durability for everyday use.

Headlining the device is an 8,340mAh battery, which POCO says offers 63.2% more capacity than its predecessor. The phone also brings 67W HyperCharge, 22.5W wired reverse charging, a 6.83-inch 1.5K display, Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 performance and comprehensive IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K protection.

For users who prioritise long battery life and durability over pure flagship performance, the POCO X8 looks set to offer a fairly compelling package, especially with its promotional price starting from RM1,299.

8,340mAh Battery Built to Last Beyond a Day

Battery life is undoubtedly the highlight of the POCO X8.

The phone packs a huge 8,340mAh battery using silicon-carbon technology with 13% silicon content, allowing POCO to fit a higher-capacity battery into the device while maintaining a practical form factor.

According to POCO's internal testing, the X8 can deliver more than two days of battery life under its simulated comprehensive daily-use scenario.

The company has also placed emphasis on battery longevity. POCO says the battery is designed to retain at least 80% of its capacity after 1,600 complete charging cycles, equivalent to roughly six years of regular use based on the company's theoretical calculations and simulated usage pattern.

The battery has additionally received TÜV SÜD 5-star Battery Performance Certification, following tests involving temperature extremes, mechanical stress and battery life cycles.

When it eventually needs a top-up, the POCO X8 supports 67W HyperCharge.

It can also double as a portable power source thanks to 22.5W wired reverse charging, allowing compatible accessories and devices to draw power from the phone.

Large 6.83-inch 1.5K Display

The large battery is paired with a similarly large screen.

POCO X8 features a 6.83-inch 1.5K display, giving users more screen space for video streaming, gaming, social media and general browsing.

Peak brightness reaches up to 3,500 nits across 25% of the screen under POCO's specified testing conditions, helping content remain visible when the phone is used outdoors.

POCO also uses what it describes as flagship-grade luminescent material to improve brightness while reducing power consumption compared with its previous-generation display material.

For extended viewing sessions, the display carries TÜV Rheinland eye-care certifications.

IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K Protection

Durability is another area where the POCO X8 stands out.

The device carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K water and dust resistance ratings, giving it additional protection across a range of everyday environments and laboratory-tested conditions.

POCO has even introduced its first Underwater Mode on the X8, designed specifically for taking photos and videos from a different perspective while in water.

However, Underwater Mode does not increase the phone's actual water-resistance limits. POCO specifies that the feature is intended for static freshwater at depths of up to two metres for up to 30 minutes under supported conditions, and does not recommend it for professional diving, seawater, swimming pools or hot water.

Protecting the front is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

POCO also states that the phone has passed SGS testing involving drops of up to three metres onto a smooth granite surface under standard laboratory conditions.

Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 and Xiaomi HyperOS 3

Powering the POCO X8 is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 Mobile Platform, manufactured on a 4nm process.

The chipset is designed to provide responsive performance for everyday tasks such as app launches, multitasking and switching between applications, while the integrated Adreno GPU handles gaming and graphics workloads.

The phone runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3 and includes Xiaomi HyperIsland, alongside Google Gemini as an integrated AI assistant.

Another interesting feature is Xiaomi Offline Communication, which can enable voice communication between supported devices even without conventional network coverage.

POCO states that the feature can support voice communication at distances of up to 1.5km in open and unobstructed environments, although availability varies by region and compatible device.

The X8 also offers a 300% volume boost mode for louder audio playback when needed.

50MP Camera with OIS and AI Editing Tools

For photography, the POCO X8 features a 50MP main camera supported by both OIS and EIS.

It is joined by a 16MP front-facing camera, with POCO placing particular emphasis on natural-looking portrait photography across varying lighting conditions.

A Dual video feature allows users to record using the front and rear cameras simultaneously, making it useful for reactions, travel clips, vlogs and other social content.

After shooting, users can also access a collection of AI-powered editing functions, including:

  • AI Glare Removal

  • AI Erase Pro

  • AI Image Expansion

  • AI Image Enhancement

  • AI Beautify

Availability of individual AI features may vary depending on region, software version and connectivity requirements.

Malaysia Pricing and Availability

The POCO X8 will be available in Malaysia in White, Black and Orange.

From 9 September 2026 onwards, it will be offered at promotional pricing through mi.com and POCO's official stores on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop.

The pricing is as follows:

  • 8GB + 256GB: RM1,499 RRP, promotional price RM1,299

  • 12GB + 256GB: RM1,699 RRP, promotional price RM1,499

For RM1,299 during the promotional period, the POCO X8's appeal is fairly straightforward: an unusually large 8,340mAh battery, a big 1.5K display, strong water and dust resistance, and enough performance and camera features to cover everyday smartphone needs.

If battery anxiety tends to be one of your biggest smartphone problems, this is clearly the audience POCO is targeting.
