POCO F7 Ultra Review: Incredible Mobile Gaming Experience at Affordable Price!

POCO have recently released their brand new smartphone, the POCO F7 Ultra, the ultrapowered device that is not only able to deliver incredible performances, but also able to snap fantastic pictures with its flagship-level triple-lens camera. In this review article, we will be diving deeper into the phone’s design, display, camera, AI features, performance as well as battery life and showcase why this phone should be a consideration for those looking for an upgrade, especially if you’re an avid mobile gamer.

Design

The POCO F7 Ultra truly stands out when it comes to its design, as the device comes with a quad-curved glass back, with the upper half of the phone having a glossy effect while the bottom half comes with a matte finish. I feel that this contrast helps to make the device feel more premium.

The POCO F7 Ultra doesn’t only have great aesthetics, it is also built in order to withstand accidents in everyday life, as it comes with the POCO’s latest and strongest screen protector, the POCO Shield Glass which helps increase its durability as well as enhance its scratch and drop protection. Camera

When it comes to the F7 Ultra’s camera features, POCO pulled out all the stops as it boasts their most advanced imaging system as of now. It features a triple-lens setup with a 50MP main camera that is paired alongside a 50MP Floating Telephoto Camera and a 32MP Ultrawide camera, in order to capture stunning photos.

The POCO F7 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon® 8 Elite processor, which enables the device to be able to provide ultra-powered performances at a rapid speed, as well as to have better battery efficiency, ensuring that you will be able to get the best performances on your device. It is also paired with the Adreno GPU, which would lead to better responsiveness as well as seamless multitasking even when you’re gaming or watching online videos. It also helps boost the graphics while also reducing the power consumption of your gameplay.

Game Tests

As one of its main highlights would be its gaming performance, I conducted a game test on the device in order to measure the performance for the F7 Ultra while using Wild Boost Mode, and the selected games were Wuthering Waves and Genshin Impact.

Wuthering Waves

Wuthering Waves is a well-known open-world RPG game since its launch in 2024, and it has a history of performance issues while in the game, such as lag. Though, when using the POCO F7 Ultra to play the game, I faced no gameplay issues even when all the settings were set to the max and after turning on the 120FPS Smart Frame Rate feature, the game was able to be played at 120FPS for a better experience.

When comparing the FPS of the game when the 120FPS Smart Frame Rate feature is turned on and off, it’s clear to see that the frame rate of the game is constantly fluctuating when it’s off while the frame rate remains constant at 120FPS when it is turned on.

Genshin Impact

The next game that I tested out with was Genshin Impact, and I used the same process for this game, by placing the game’s settings to its highest. The game quality was crisp and the movement felt incredibly smooth. Similarly, the game was also able to be played at a consistent rate of 120FPS when the 120FPS Smart Frame Rate feature was turned on and the frame rate was also inconsistent when this feature was turned off.

Furthermore, the F7 Ultra also helps to enhance your visual experience while playing games with its Game HDR feature. With this feature, both the brightness and contrast of the game will dynamically change to make the images feel more lifelike, making it a more immersive experience for users.

Though, with great performance can also lead to issues such as the device overheating, though you have no need to worry about that as the F7 Ultra features the LiquidCool Technology 4.0, which comes with a 3D Dual-Channel IceLoop cooling system with a massive 5400mm² heat dissipation area, which will help maintain the temperature of your device, even when you’re in the middle of a gaming session.

AI Features

In addition to its incredible performances in gaming, the phone also comes with a wide range of AI features that will be able to benefit the user. Whether it’s to help increase your work efficiency, to help edit your pictures or to easily search for something, the F7 Ultra will be able to help provide you with assistance.

AI Writing

With the AI Writing feature, you will be able to get help in writing whatever prompts that you have in mind, whether it’s to create an email or to write an article.Furthermore, it also comes with other features such as summarising articles, organizing notes and even checking the spelling of your emails.

AI Speech Recognition

Meanwhile, with the AI Speech Recognition, you will be able to easily handle taking down notes or even composing a long message as this feature converts your speech into texts, not only would this benefit those who prefer speaking over typing, but it is also more efficient.

AI Interpreter

The F7 Ultra also introduces the AI Interpreter, a feature which will be able to help provide real-time translation for any scenario, whether it’s for face-to-face interactions, phone calls, or even online meetings.

AI Search

With the AI Search feature, you will be able to quickly find whatever content you’re looking for in your device, whether it’s files, images or even articles, and this will be able to help improve your efficiency.

Gemini Live

The POCO F7 Ultra also comes with Gemini Live, and with this feature you will be able to converse and interact with it. In addition, you can also attach an image to Gemini Live and engage in real-time conversations with Gemini regarding the content of the picture, and you can do so with notes or even studying materials. This feature is really helpful for those looking to get ideas or for those who are studying.

Image Generation

In addition, users will also be able to use the Image Generation feature that comes with the Gemini app. If you have any creative ideas that you want to bring to life, then you can use this feature to bring your creative ideas into a picture.

Circle to Search

As for the Circle to Search feature, this will allow users to be able to circle around any item, landmark or even text on their screen, and they will be able to instantly receive search results which relate to the circled item.

AI Erase Pro

The F7 Ultra also features the upgraded AI Erase Pro, which will completely erase unwanted objects or people from the picture without leaving any traces of them in the picture, which will ensure that you will be able to get the picture that you were looking to get.

Furthermore, you’ll be able to turn everyday moments into priceless and cinematic memories easily with the AI Film feature. All you have to do is upload your favourite pictures and videos and let the power of AI generate videos for you.

With the AI Image Enhancement, you will be able to transform any low resolution images into ultra-high definition images with just a single tap of a button.

Battery

The POCO F7 Ultra is equipped with an impressive 5300mAh battery which ensures that the phone will be able to last for a long period of time even after an extensive gaming session. The phone’s battery also features the POCO Surge P3 charging chipset and the POCO Surge G1 battery chipset which help to manage the power flow of the device, improve charging efficiency and even protect the battery health.

Thus, in order to test the battery life of the device while playing games, I measured the battery life of the F7 Ultra after an hour of gameplay while playing both Wuthering Waves and Genshin Impact, with both games set to the highest settings and while Wild Boost Mode was on as well.

In total, the results showed that a total of 26% of the battery was consumed in the hour of gaming. 

Genshin Impact

Similarly, in Genshin Impact, the results showed that a total of 24% of the battery was drained after one hour of playing the game. 

Aside from gaming, I also wanted to test out the battery life of the device when watching videos, so I watched a YouTube video at 2140p for an hour. The results showed that the phone’s battery life was only drained down by 11% after an hour.

Furthermore, the device also supports an incredible 120W HyperCharge as well as a 50W wireless HyperCharge, both of which will be able to ensure that the user will be able to return to their games in an instant. When testing out the charging speed for the POCO F7 Ultra, the device was able to be fully charged in only 43 minutes, which is incredible.

Verdict

In conclusion, the POCO F7 Ultra is an incredible device with many amazing features to benefit the users. It’s clear that the device was built with gaming performance in mind, boasting a powerful processor, high-quality display and many features to help improve your gaming experience. Not only that, but its camera features are nothing to scoff at either, as you’ll be able to capture stunning pictures with its triple-lens setup. The F7 Ultra is priced at RM2,999 for its 12 + 256GB variant while the 16 + 512GB variant is available for RM3,299.
