Sony has announced its plans to launch a new generation of VR controllers to level up PlayStation's virtual reality system at CES 2022.
The PlayStation VR2 is set to take virtual reality to a never before seen experience, by providing a great sense of presence and allowing players to indulge in-game worlds. Using innovations from PS5, the PlayStation VR2 makes a true next-gen experience by adding high-fidelity visuals, new sensory features, and enhanced tracking - paired with a single-cord setup for lesser clutter.
Visual Fidelity: To provide high Visual Fidelity, PS VR2 provides support for 4K HDR, 110-degree field of view, and foveated rendering. Featuring an OLD display allows players to expect a display resolution of 2000x2040 per eye and smooth frame rates of both 90/120Hz.
Headset-based Controller Tracking: Having an inside-out tracking, PS VR2 can track you and your controller through cameras integrated within the VR headset that will reflect movements and the direction you look at in-game, without needing an external camera.
New Sensory Features: The PS VR2 Sense technology uses a combination of eye-tracking, headset feedback, 3D Audio, and the PS VR2 Sense controller to provide an incredible feeling of immersion. The Headset feedback is a new sensory feature to amplify the sensations of a game, created by a single built-in motor with vibrations to add an intelligent tactile element. On top of that, it also has PS5's Tempest 3D AudioTech to make sounds in the player's surroundings come to life, for additional immersion.
Eye Tracking: The eye-tracking feature allows PS VR2 to detect the motion of your eyes, allowing a simple look in a specific direction in-game to create an additional input for the game character.
The PS VR2 will also have a setup process that is fairly easy - by using a single cable to connect directly to your PS5, you can fully immerse yourself in the game fast and easy.
Another release that will be coming to the PS5 VR2 is the Horizon Call of the Mountain from Guerrilla and Firesprite. This game is built specifically for PS5 VR2 to allow players explore further into the world of Horizon.
