PlayStation’s many online multiplayer games will be free to play without PS Plus this weekend.
Sony announced that its next Online Multiplayer Weekend event will take place on 27 and 28 August. This will remove the PS Plus requirement for all PlayStation games with online multiplayer.
Back in the old days during the PlayStation 3, Sony provided free online multiplayer to its users while Microsoft’s Xbox 360 required an Xbox Live Gold subscription. However, as time passed, the roles switched, and now Xbox doesn’t require a subscription. While Sony and Nintendo made online game subscriptions a requirement.
However, for games that are free to play, the PS Plus requirement is removed. Games like Fortnite and Call of Duty Warzone can be played without subscribing.
Regardless, we can only hope that subscribing to online play will become obsolete in the future so that everyone can enjoy playing games without an additional paywall.
