Overwatch 2 new players will need to grind for unlocking old heros

New Overwatch 2 players will have a limited hero access from the start.

Blizzard stated that it wants Overwatch 2's "First Time User Experience" to be more gradual than the original Overwatch in the most recent blog update for the game. This is largely because new players have mentioned that they felt "overwhelmed by the variety of game types and characters" in their feedback.

New accounts that starts with Overwatch 2 will have "limited access of game modes, heroes and some other restrictions to onboard them more gradually" Blizzard wrote. Instead of having the full Overwatch heroes right from the start, new players will only have to unlock each heroes by playing the game for longer period of time as Blizzard mentioned "The first phase of our new FTUE rapidly unlocks all the game modes and the ability to chat in-game, and the second phase unlocks all the original Overwatch heroes over the course of approximately 100 matches. ".

To be clear, this first-time player progression does not appear to be connected to Overwatch 2's upcoming battle pass, which will still need players to grind through 55 levels in order to unlock a new hero.

However, new players can buy the premium battle pass for $10 (~RM46) to unlock Kiriko from the jump or purchase the $40 Watchpoint Pack to startup with a few old heros for new players who don't have time to grind a lot for a hero in the game which makes the game no longer "Free-to-Play" anymore.
