A new developer blog post has dropped last week.
As you know, Overwatch 2 has become a free-to-play model to allow more players to experience the game. But, Overwatch 2 is not really "f2p" since the launch, removing loot boxes is like removing the most important rewarding aspects in the game as players now require to grind through battle pass to get cosmetics and skins. Anyway, let's go back to the blog post.
As stated by Executive Producer Jared Neuss "We want you to have new accomplishments to chase outside of your Competitive Rank and Battle Pass level. When you finish a session, we want you to feel good about the time you just spent in the game— even if you ended on an epic losing streak at 2 a.m. after saying that you wouldn't end on a loss."
He declares that the Overwatch 2 development team is aware of player concerns about the game's reward system, and daily and weekly challenges. They will be having short-term and long-term updates regarding this issue. In Short Term, they will be a bit changes to the rewards so that each event has a skin that players can earn by playing in Season 2. Also, Twitch drops programs are back to offer more skins and in-game cosmetics by supporting your favorite creators.
The Long Term Plan will mostly be on Season 3 and beyond. There will be a mix of Battle Pass changes, more challenges, and exciting play-focused progression systems for players to dig into. More about these changes will be revealed in the future.
Lastly, there are also changes in competition, hero balance, and queue times being discussed in the topic. If you're looking to read the developer post in detail click here.
