Remember yesterday when I reported that a new single-player Black Panther game might be in development? Well, there’s some info about that, and it's spicy.
Industry insider and journalist Jeff Grubb said on Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings show the new project is called “Project Rainier”, and it is in early development.
The game will be a single-player game, and the premise will be about Black Panther being dead. The player takes up the challenge of becoming the new Black Panther.
While the premise sounds interesting, it evokes similarities to the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever movie. That movie will also be about the death of T’Challa, as a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.
Another interesting fact about the project; according to Grubb, the codename “Project Rainier” is likely a reference to the studio making the game. He theorises that the studio in question is the new EA Seattle studio founded by Monolith Productions vice president Kevin Stephens.
Oh boy, EA, a name I was hoping not to hear, especially for a Marvel game. With EA’s track record of flopped games like Anthem and Battlefield 2042, we can only hope this new Black Panther game doesn’t suffer the same fate.
