MSI has announced a new Console Mode for PS5 gamers to enjoy proper 1440p resolutions on a QHD monitor.

Currently, the PS5 provides up-scaled 1080p resolutions instead of outputting native QHD resolutions on monitors due to TV support prioritization. Console Mode overcomes this limitation by providing the ability to “automatically accept 4K signals on QHD monitor, and support HDR simultaneously”.

“Nowadays, more and more consumers are choosing monitors instead of TVs to play console and PC games,” said MSI. “For these users, the lack of QHD resolution output support is a hindrance. MSI has heard the voices of these consumers and provided a relatively good solution.”

Currently, Console Mode is supported by curved monitors like the MPG ARTYMIS 343CQR, Optix MPG341CQR, Optix MPG341CQRV, Optix MPG342CQR, and Optix AG321CQR. Flat monitors that support the feature include the Creator PS321QR, Optix MAG274QRF-OD, and Optix MAG274QRF. The upcoming MPG ARTYMIS 343CQR 1000R AI Gaming Monitor, which is due to launch in December, will also support Console Mode.
