Mobile Legends: Bang Bang leads the charge for Women's Esports at the Asian Esports Games 2024, featuring 20 Regional teams!

With the Asian Esports Games (AEG) slowly approaching, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) is set to elevate regional competition by being the exclusive esports title for the women’s competition. This year's AEG, which was organised by the Thailand Esports Federation (TESF) will be taking place from 25 to 27 November 2024, in Bangkok, Thailand.

The AEG 2024 MLBB women's competition will feature representatives from 20 regional teams, spanning across Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East. This gives a rise in women’s esports and demonstrates MLBB’s leadership in driving regional recognition and opportunities for female players. The tournament is set to welcome representatives from regions including Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, China, and the Philippines, including first-time participants from countries like Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Nepal. The MLBB women's tournament will reflect the unifying spirit of esports and the growing popularity of the game among female esports athletes across Asia.

Ray Ng, the Head of Esports Ecosystem at MOONTON Games, highlighted the significance of having 20 regions represented in the MLBB women's tournament, demonstrating a commitment to diversity and inclusivity. He expressed excitement about the growth of the esports ecosystem as more countries support women's participation, which helps the MLBB community push boundaries.

Santi Lothong, the President of TESF, shared that they are happy in being able to host the Asian Esports Games and supporting women's esports through the exclusive MLBB competition. He noted that the event not only showcases female talent but also reflects Thailand's commitment to nurturing a strong esports ecosystem, aiming to inspire future female esports athletes across the region.

All the spotlights will be on the Indonesia national team, such as Team Vitality, who will be looking to rebuild their once-reputation as undefeatable. Team Vitality recently lost their 24-match winning streak – which dates to 2021 – at the MLBB Women's Invitational (MWI) 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in July after they were defeated by Filipino opposition Smart Omega Empress 3-0 in the Grand Finals.

Regional inclusivity shines bright at AEG 2024

The AEG plays a significant role in promoting female talent and inclusivity in the region's esports scene and it will also marks a milestone with China’s women’s team making their debut in a global competition in Southeast Asia, reflecting the country's increasing involvement in esports and the expansion of the global competitive gaming landscape.

Furthermore, hosting the AEG in Bangkok is a major step for Thailand as it gears up for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in 2025. The event, backed by the Sports Authority of Thailand, not only showcases the country's growing potential in esports but also aims to position Thailand as a central hub for regional sports, demonstrating its commitment to developing esports talent and infrastructure in Asia.

As excitement builds for the Asian Esports Games, fans and supporters worldwide can tune in to watch the action live and witness the next chapter in MLBB women’s esports. With record-breaking participation and unprecedented geographic diversity, AEG 2024 will set the stage for a new era in Asian women’s esports.
