In a post on PlayStation Blog, Piranha Games has announced that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries and its expansion, Heroes of the Inner Sphere will be releasing on PS4 and PS5 on 23 September.
The release marks the franchise's return to the PlayStation consoles in over 20 years. The last time fans got to experience a MechWarrior title was back in 1997 when MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat was released on PSone.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries takes place in 3015 during the final decade of the Third Succession War. As the leader of a growing mercenary company, you will be tasked with assignments from various factions and expand your team of MechWarriors and BattleMechs. PlayStation players can look forward to the ability to "switch between any of the AI Lance BattleMechs during a mission".
The company also confirmed that you’ll be able to play the game with people on other platforms and experience the DLC campaign if you join a co-op match hosted by someone who owns the expansion. This means that you don't need to own the expansion to access the DLC content.
