Not long ago after the release of the Alder Lake chips, Intel headed to CES 2022 with 50 new 12th Gen processors, including the new H-series, the P-series, and the U-series. Intel boasts the H-series chipsets the world's best mobile gaming platform with up to a 28% better performance in gaming and 40% better performance in creativity apps compared to the previous-gen models.
To recap, the Alder Lake chips is a hybrid combination fo the Performance Cores (P-Cores) and Efficiency Cores (E-Cores). The chips support DDR5 and LPDDR5. While the desktop chips support PCIe 5.0, the mobile processors only support PCIe 4.0.
The H-series chips are designed for gaming laptops that can handle 45W or more power draw. The H-series spans across the Core i9, i7, and i5 families, topping at 14 cores (6 P-Cores and 8 E-Cores). The chips can boost to a maximum 5.0GHz.
The P-series is less power-demaning than the H-series with a default power draw of 28W that can boost up to 64W. It includes members from the i7, i5, and i3 families. Designed for performance thin and light laptops, these chips top at 14 cores too but at a 4.8GHz boost.
Finally, the U-series is built for the thinnest and lightest devices. It comes with only 2 P-Cores and either 4 or 8 E-Cores. The chips in this series support default 9 or 15W TDPs, but can go up to 29W or 55W.
In addition, Intel has added new members to its Alder Lake desktop lineup with 22 new chips ranging from the Core i9-12900 to the Celeron G6900.
Intel is also expanding its ecosystem of motherboards and coolers to go with its 600 series chipsets. Joining the Z690 motherboards, there are the H670, B660, and H610 series motherboards. Compared to the Z690, the new models have fewer PCIe lanes and USB ports but still support Wi-Fi 6E and PCIe 4.0.
The new coolers that will be bundling with the new processors are the Intel laminar RH1 cooler, Intel Laminar RM1 cooler, and Intel Laminar RS1 cooler. The Laminar RH1 will come bundled with the Core i9 processor and it has controllable aRGB lighting. The Laminar RM1 and Laminar RS1 come in standard sizes. The former will come with the Core i7, Core i5, and Core i3 chips, while the latter will come with the Pentium and Celeron chips.
