Immortals Fenyx Rising, Formerly Gods and Monsters, Gets New Trailer

Ubisoft has released a trailer for their upcoming game, Immortals Fenyx Rising, which was once known by the way cooler name of Gods and Monsters.

Although the name has changed, it’s still a cartoony-looking game about taking on monsters from Greek mythology. While I’m not sure what most of the monsters shown are, there’s certainly no mistaking the Minotaur or Medusa and her petrifying gaze.

There’s a variety of monsters of different shapes and sizes, but the demigod hero, Fenyx, seems pretty well-equipped to take them on. Fenyx, whose appearance and gender can be customized, wields the sword of Achilles and the bow of Odysseus. They also have a bunch of powers, which includes summoning a massive magical hammer and sprouting wings.

Although no actual gameplay was shown, the trailer certainly has me interested in the idea of exploring an open world and taking on monsters as a badass Greek demigod. The general reception is a bit mixed though, largely due to the trailer’s groovy but admittedly odd music choice (James Brown’s I Got Ants In My Pants). Some comments also likened the trailer to that of a cheap mobile game.

Immortals Fenyx Rising will be out on 3 December on Google Stadia, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Epic Games Store.
