HUAWEI FreeBuds SE 5 MAX Brings Up to Industry’s Longest 80 Hours of Battery Life and 52dB Adaptive ANC to Everyday Listening

Earbuds tend to become part of your daily routine pretty quickly. They keep you company on the commute, help you focus during work and provide the soundtrack for an evening walk. Remembering to charge them, however, is another matter.

The HUAWEI FreeBuds SE 5 MAX puts battery endurance at the centre of its appeal, offering up to 80 hours of total music playback, 1 charge for 2 weeks. Alongside that comes up to 52dB Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation, support for connections to two devices and Hi-Res Audio with LDAC. Delivering a flagship-level experience at just the RM100++ price point, it stands as the absolute best value branded TWS on the market.

Under the tagline “MAX POWER, MAX ANC,” Huawei brings these features together in lightweight earbuds with a fresh semi-transparent case design. For anyone looking for a pair to use throughout a busy week, here is what the FreeBuds SE 5 MAXoffers.

MAX POWER: Up to 80 Hours of Listening, 1 Charge for 2 Weeks!

Battery life is the headline feature here. With active noise cancellation switched off, Huawei rates the FreeBuds SE 5 MAX for up to 10 hours of music playback on a single charge, extending to 80 hours with repeated top-ups from the charging case.

Switch ANC on, and the rated figures are up to seven hours from the earbuds, or 57 hours including the charging case. That gives users the option to prioritise longer playback or noise cancellation depending on where they are listening.

Huawei’s “one charge for two-week power” message refers to the combined capacity of the earbuds and charging case. Based on the advertised figures, that works out to approximately 5.7 hours of listening each day for two weeks with ANC off, or around four hours daily with ANC on.

In other words, the earbuds still return to their case between listening sessions, but the case itself can go longer between charges.

There is fast charging for the days when you forget, too. Huawei says a 10-minute charge provides up to four hours of music playback with ANC off. A quick top-up while getting ready could therefore cover a commute and some listening at your destination.

Actual battery life varies with volume, settings and usage. Still, the combination of long total playback and a short charging time gives the FreeBuds SE 5 MAX a clear focus: keeping your audio available with less charging admin.

MAX ANC: Up to 52dB Active Noise Cancellation

A long battery life is useful, but so is being able to hear your audio comfortably when the surroundings get busy.

The FreeBuds SE 5 MAX supports Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) with a maximum noise cancellation depth of up to 52dB, according to Huawei. It offers Ultra, General and Cozy modes, allowing users to choose a cancellation level for different environments.

Ultra mode is intended for noisier settings such as public transport, while Cozy mode caters to quieter spaces such as libraries and offices. General mode offers another option for everyday surroundings.

There is also a Dynamic mode, which senses background noise and automatically adjusts the cancellation strength. That could be useful when your journey takes you from a relatively quiet room to a busy street and then onto public transport.

For outdoor listening, a dedicated wind noise reduction mode helps address unwanted wind noise. Awareness mode provides an alternative when you want to hear more of your surroundings without removing the earbuds.

As with any in-ear ANC design, the seal matters. Huawei includes three sizes of silicone ear tips, with the medium pair fitted by default. Choosing the size that fits securely helps support both comfort and noise cancellation performance.

Six Microphones Help Keep Calls Clearer

The FreeBuds SE 5 MAXalso uses a six-microphone system for AI call noise cancellation.

Huawei combines directional voice pickup with noise reduction processing to help separate your speech from background sound. The aim is to make your voice easier for the person on the other end to hear when you take a call in a busy environment.

That is a useful distinction from listening with ANC enabled. One feature reduces the noise you hear, while call noise cancellation works on the voice picked up by the microphones.

For people who regularly answer calls while out and about, both features have a role in making everyday conversations more manageable.

Connect to Two Devices Across iOS and Android

Using earbuds across a phone and another device can involve more reconnecting than anyone wants during a workday.

The FreeBuds SE 5 MAX supports dual-device connection, allowing it to stay connected to two compatible devices and switch audio between them without manually disconnecting and pairing again each time.

For example, you could watch a video on a tablet and then answer an incoming call on your phone, the connection is switched automatically. It is a useful feature for anyone whose entertainment and communication happen on different screens.

Compatibility extends across iOS, Android, EMUI and HarmonyOS, so the earbuds can also fit into a setup that includes devices from different brands.

The FreeBuds SE 5 MAX features Bluetooth 6.0, with Huawei highlighting stable connectivity and audio-video synchronisation as part of the listening experience.

More Control Through HUAWEI Audio Connect

The HUAWEI Audio Connect app gives users access to settings beyond the initial Bluetooth pairing.

Through the app, users can adjust noise cancellation, personalise supported gesture controls and change sound settings. It also provides firmware updates and a feature that makes misplaced earbuds ring to help locate them.

The touch controls cover everyday actions such as playing or pausing audio, managing calls and changing tracks. Supported customisation options also include switching noise control modes, adjusting volume and waking a voice assistant.

That flexibility lets users set up the controls around the actions they use most often. Available functions can vary depending on the connected device and software version.

Hi-Res Audio With LDAC Support

For music playback, the FreeBuds SE 5 MAX combines 10mm dynamic drivers with Hi-Res Audio certification and LDAC support.

LDAC supports wireless audio transmission at bitrates of up to 990kbps, allowing more audio data to be transmitted than standard SBC under suitable conditions. Taking advantage of LDAC requires a compatible source device and the relevant settings.

There are also options for tailoring the sound through HUAWEI Audio Connect. The four preset EQ modes are Default, Bass Boost, Treble Boost and Voices, alongside three custom EQ profiles for adjustments.

Bass Boost gives users an option for adding more low-end emphasis, while the Voices preset offers a setting to explore for spoken content. Having these choices makes it easier to adjust the presentation for different listening preferences.

A Fresh Case Design and Lightweight Fit

The charging case introduces a semi-transparent lid with a subtly textured finish, giving the FreeBuds SE 5 MAX a distinctive look.

Huawei offers the earbuds in Blue, White and Black. The Blue version features a pearlescent frosted finish, adding a little colour and texture to an accessory that many people carry every day.

The case uses rounded contours and chamfered edges for a comfortable grip, while each earbud weighs approximately 4.3g.

Huawei says its ergonomic design draws on more than 10,000 ear profiles and tens of millions of data points. Together with the three ear tip sizes, the design aims to provide a lightweight, secure fit for daily listening.

MAX POWER, MAX ANC for Your Daily Routine

The HUAWEI FreeBuds SE 5 MAX focuses on features that have a clear place in everyday use. Up to 80 hours of total playback reduces how often the charging case needs topping up, while up to 52dB Adaptive ANC offers different ways to manage background noise.

Dual-device connectivity adds convenience for people moving between screens, and the HUAWEI Audio Connect app provides control over sound and supported gestures. Hi-Res Audio with LDAC support rounds out the package for listeners with compatible devices.

If long battery life and adjustable noise cancellation sit high on your earbud wishlist, the HUAWEI FreeBuds SE 5 MAX is a model to explore.

Battery figures are based on Huawei laboratory testing. The maximum 80-hour total includes repeated charging using the charging case with ANC disabled. Huawei’s stated playback tests use standard-quality music at 50% volume. Actual results vary with settings, usage and environmental conditions. Maximum ANC depth is a laboratory measurement and does not represent an equal reduction of every surrounding sound. LDAC and certain app features require compatible devices and software.
