Building a DDR5 PC hasn’t exactly been cheap lately, especially with global memory prices still sitting at uncomfortable levels.

To address this, GIGABYTE Technology has announced a new BIOS update for its Intel 800, 700, and 600 series motherboards that adds full support for the newly introduced HUDIMM (One Sub-channel DDR5) memory standard.

The update is aimed at making DDR5 systems more affordable for mainstream users, system builders, and entry-level PC gamers who may have been holding back due to rising component costs.

What is HUDIMM?

HUDIMM, also referred to as One Sub-channel DDR5, is a newer memory specification that uses a single 32-bit sub-channel, compared to traditional DDR5 UDIMM modules that typically use dual 32-bit sub-channels.

By reducing the number of DRAM chips required per module, memory manufacturers can potentially produce these modules at lower costs.

In simpler terms:Cheaper DDR5 RAM could soon become more accessible for budget-conscious builders.

This could be especially helpful for first-time builders who want to jump into newer Intel platforms without spending heavily on premium DDR5 kits.

Easier and More Flexible Upgrades

One of the more interesting features introduced with this BIOS update is support for mixed memory configurations.

For example, users can pair:

  • 8GB HUDIMM module

  • 16GB standard UDIMM module

This creates a total of 24GB memory capacity, offering a more flexible and budget-friendly upgrade route without forcing users to replace their entire RAM kit.

According to GIGABYTE Technology, users can also benefit from combined bandwidth across three DDR5 sub-channels in these configurations.

Available Now

The BIOS update is currently available for GIGABYTE’s full lineup of:

  • Intel 800 series motherboards

  • Intel 700 series motherboards

  • Intel 600 series motherboards

Users can download the latest BIOS update through GIGABYTE’s official website.

For budget PC builders, this could be a surprisingly useful update at a time when every hardware purchase decision feels a little painful.
