[Games Around the Corner] Week 52, 2021 - FPS and Chess

The last week of 2021 will see two FPS (one of them playfully pokes fun at Battlefield 2042) and a cool 3D game based on chess.

Pawn of the Dead

Developed by Aslan Game Studio, Pawn of the Dead is a 3D game based on chess, in the style of Battle Chess. What makes it unique is that when a Black piece catches a White piece, the latter will turn into a Black one. The game features a campaign mode with 64 levels, a 2D mode, and a Queen vs Zombies mode.

"As Leonard the King of the White Kingdom, you have to defend your land against the marching army of the undead. With a help of your Queen Elona, the bravest warrior in the realm, you must overcome the threat. During your quest, you will face a sinister reflection you forgot a long time ago…," the game description reads.

Pawn of the Dead will make its Switch debut on 30 December.

Hollow 2

MegaPixel Studio's sequel of the original FPS Hollow will take place on a space mining ship called Shakhter-One. The first game launched to an unusually abysmal critical reception so the developers promised "re-designed, fast and friendly" mechanics in Hollow 2. Players will play as the main protagonist Mark, who is working through his history of "mental tragedy and family life", and his memories blur with the dark corridors of the station, which is caught in a "never-ending loop of pain."

Hollow 2 will launch on Switch on 30 December.

Clownfield 2042

In this game, players will take on the role of "unique" soldier, equipped with 6 weapons where they will fight against enemies on Battlefield 2042-looking maps. "After 2022 cryptocrash caused by NFT's, majority of nations collapsed and a union of "No-Clowns" has been formed. You are one of them, arm up and get ready for war."

The game features three maps, six weapons, three game modes, a tornado physics system across all maps, and a basic AI system. The Steam page also boasts that the game will have "bugs, per usual, plenty of bugs. We’ll let you enjoy them as is; and instead of fixing them, we’ll just release some new skins."

Clownfield 2042 will be released on Steam on 31 December.
