[Games Around the Corner] Week 5, 2021 – A New YS Game

This week, we’re getting both a Japanese RPG and a Western RPG. Adol Christin embarks on a new adventure and is given special powers in the latest installment of the YS series, while Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood offers werewolves and an evil oil company. There’s also a 2D shoot-em-up.

YS IX: MONSTRUM NOX

Adol and Dogi return for their latest adventure in Japaneseaction RPGYS IX: MONSTRUM NOX. This time, Adol finds himself in the city of Balduq, where he is turned by a mysterious woman into a being with supernatural powers called a Monstrum. Alongside the other Monstrum, who are also playable, Adol will have to deal with enemies from the Grimwald Nox dimension. The game will allow players to explore the city and help its people in quests, while new mechanics like Gifts and Boost Mode join existing ones like Flash Dodge. YS IX: MONSTRUM NOX will be released on February 2 for PS4, with a Steam and Switch release arriving later this year.

Habroxia 2

A 2D shoot-em-up, Habroxia 2 follows the starpilot Sabrina as she searches for her father, a scout ship pilot who was sent to investigate the source of an attack on the Free Space star system but didn’t return. Expect retro pixel graphics and chiptunes, upgrades and customizable special weapon loadouts, 20 bosses, and branching levels. There will also be Boost Rush and Boss Rush modes, as well as New Game+. Habroxia 2 will be released on February 3 on Steam, Switch, PS4, and PS Vita.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood

Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood is an action RPG that puts you in the role of a Garou called Cahal. Exiled for losing control of his rage, Cahal has to deal with an oil company called Endron, whose master is a planet-ravaging spirit called the Wyrm. Cahal is able to transform into a wolf for stealth, a larger and more powerful Crinos form for combat, or stay as a human to interact with others or utilize a crossbow. The game is based on the Werewolf: The Apocalypse tabletop RPG, which is set in the same World of Darkness universe as Vampires: The Masquerade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood will release on February 4 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Epic Games Store.
