There’s quite a lot of action this week, whether in the form of looter-shooting, fantasy hack-and-slashing, or tactical gang warfare. There are also some titles for more narrative gamers, but no matter where you go, some bloodshed seems inevitable.
A remaster of the 2012 open-world action-RPG written by R.A. Salvatore. Amalur is under threat, and as a resurrected warrior, it is your duty to save it. You’ll be able to explore the world as a warrior, a mage, or a rogue, with the option to mix abilities to create a hybrid build as well. The game will be released on 8 September on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
Necromunda: Underhive Wars
A turn-based tactics adaptation of Games Workshop’s tabletop skirmish game, made by the developers who previously adapted Mordheim, another Games Workshop tabletop skirmish game. While Mordheim was a fantasy game, Necromunda: Underhive Wars takes place in the same grimdark far future as the Warhammer 40,000 series. Instead of getting involved in epic battles against daemons and aliens, however, you’ll be controlling and customizing a gang in the dark Underhive of the planet Necromunda. There’ll be three gangs to choose from: the all-female Escher, the beefy Goliaths, and the industrial Orlocks. The game will be released on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on 8 September.
The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon
The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon is a narrative DLC for Obsidian’s sci-fi RPG. It’ll see you visiting the distant Gorgon Asteroid, once the site for a scientific project, and now “a lawless den of monsters and marauders”. Your crew is tasked by the wealthy and reclusive Minnie Ambrose with finding her mother, the project’s disgraced director, only to get caught up in intrigue. The DLC will release on 9 September on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Borderlands 3: Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck
Borderlands 3’s fourth campaign add-on brings back Borderlands 2’s Krieg. Scientist Patricia Tannis believes that the reason the planet’s psychos are so psycho is due to a place called Vaulthalla. To discover more, you’ll be transported into Krieg’s mind, where you’ll meet both of his personas. The DLC will be out on 10 September on all available platforms.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Shadows of New York
Vampire: The Masquerade - Shadows of New York is a standalone expansion and companion piece to 2019’s Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York. It’s a visual novel set in the world of the tabletop RPG Vampire: The Masquerade. While Coteries of New York is described as more of a general introduction to the game’s 5th edition setting, Shadows of New York will be a more “personal and unique” affair. As an outcast, you are assigned to investigate the murder of New York’s Anarch leader, knowing that it is yet another part of Jyhad, an eternal vampire struggle for supremacy. The game will be out on Steam on 10 September.
