[Games Around the Corner] Week 30, 2021 - Past or Future?

If time travelling is real, would you rather go back to the past or explore the future? This week, Tribes of Midgard will bring players back to surviving the era of the Vikings as a Midgardian of the Seed of Yggdrasil. Those who love the excitement and adrenaline rush from fast-paced shooting games will enjoy either firing through wormhole portals in Splitgate or fighting syndicates in The Ascent.

Tribes of Midgard

Tribes of Midgard is a 1-10 player co-op action survival RPG in which players will assume the role of a Viking hero to protect the Seed of Yggdrasil from enemies like the Helthings, dark elves, trolls, and giants. Unlike typical survival games, players don’t have to worry about survival meters such as Thirst and Hunger. Players will be able to focus on finding resources and upgrading their village.

In addition, the tribe has eight classes with their own unique combat abilities: The Warrior, The Ranger, The Sentinel, The Seer, The Berserker, The Hunter, The Guardian, and The Warden. Players will be able to apply Runes that change their abilities and give buffs to different skills as they unlock the classes in phases.

Tribes of Midgard will be available on 27 July on PS4, PS5, and Steam.

Splitgate

Described as “Halo meets Portal”, the first person shooter game lets players fly, flank, and frag through the air using portal combat to constantly out-maneuver enemies. Splitgate offers players a battle with more than 15 game modes and over 20 maps including a research facility inside an active volcano, an underwater luxury hotel, an alien crash site, and more. Players can also enjoy more intense games with other players and even customise their own locations with modifiers before battling.

Splitgate will be released on 27 July on Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.

The Ascent

Set on Veles, The Ascent brings action-shooter RPG gameplay into a cyberpunk world controlled by The Ascent Group. When the corporation mysteriously shuts down, the district is sent into chaos as syndicates and rival corporations fight against each other for control. As a worker of The Ascent Group, players must stop them from seizing control and discover the truth behind the collapse.

Before getting into action, players can customise their character with cyberware according to their playstyle and try various augmentations to earn new skills and abilities. As for game modes, players can either choose to play alone or join forces with three other players in local or online co-op.

The Ascent will be released on 29 July on XBox Series X/S, XBox One, and 30 July on Steam.
