[Games Around the Corner] Week 27, 2021 – Cars, Monsters, and Boomerangs

This week, the Monster Hunter Stories spin-off series returns with its second game to deliver more turn-based RPG gameplay, while a new action game with boomerangs offers more direct monster-killing. Additionally, the Crash Drive series gets a third game to offer more free-roam driving and cross-platform multiplayer.

Crash Drive 3

Crash Drive 3 is a sandbox driving playground that offers five themed open world maps, and 10 game modes. The maps include a moon, a castle with a forest outside, and a snowy map, while the modes include Destroy The Beach Ball, King Of The Crown, Cops ‘N Robbers, and Tank Battle.

The game will also have over 50 vehicles that include monster trucks, garbage trucks, and several varieties of cars. Additionally, there will be levelling up, events, cash to earn, and secret areas and collectibles in each map. Players can play offline or with others via cross-platform multiplayer.

Crash Drive 3 will be released on Steam, Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, iOS, and Android.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

This second installment of Monster Hunter’s spin-off turn-based RPG series sees players playing the grandson of a legendary Rider called Red. After meeting a Wyverian girl called Ena, who has an egg that can potentially hatch into a Rathalos, the protagonist finds himself setting off on a journey and forming bonds with friendly monsters called Monsties who will fight alongside him. Aside from single-player, the game will also offer co-op and versus modes.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin will offer several weapon types, customizable appearances, and special skills when riding a Monstie. Its turn-based combat includes elements like three types of attacks, a Kinship Gauge, and Battle Buddy companions. Additionally, there are randomly appearing Monster Dens with eggs to find, the Rite of Channeling for transferring a gene from one Monstie to another, blessings from Prayer Pots, and amiibo bonuses.

The game will be released on July 9 for Switch and Steam.

Boomerang X

Boomerang X is a first-person action game where its protagonist wields a boomerang against various creatures. Players can also slow time and slingshot themselves to their boomerang when it’s thrown, allowing them to dash through the air and reposition.

As for the premise, the Steam description says, “Fight your way through the bowels of ruined civilization undone by these creatures of nightmare and stop them spreading to the rest of your world. Something lurks deep underneath these ruined halls, spewing corruption…can you defeat whatever it is? And even if you can…will that really be the end?”

Boomerang X will be released on Steam and Switch on July 9.
