Facebook Rolls Out Cloud Games on Apple Devices Via Web App

Facebook has released cloud games on iPhones and iPads through a web app for Apple users to add to their home screens. This means the users can play the games instantly without having to download them.

Facebook’s decision to bring games to iOS via the web app option is the only way, as Apple prohibits third-party developers like Facebook to redirect their app users to websites featuring purchasing mechanisms that are not Apple’s. However, Apple did change its rules and allowed for cloud gaming as long as they were submitted individually as apps to the App Store for review. Companies like Microsoft and Amazon have since used the web app as a tactic to launch cloud games on Apple devices.

“The web app is available globally on Safari browser, but cloud games are only playable in the U.S. and parts of Canada and Mexico. Anyone outside of those areas can play HTML5 games in the web app. As we expand cloud games to more regions, they’ll launch in the web app, too,” said Facebook.
