Earlier, E3 had been canceled entirely for the second time in three years but fans can get their hopes back up for the event next year.
In an interview, ESA President and CEO Stan Pierre-Louis told The Washington Post, "We’re excited about coming back in 2023 with both a digital and an in-person event." He added, "As much as we love these digital events, and as much as they reach people and we want that global reach, we also know that there’s a really strong desire for people to convene — to be able to connect in person and see each other and talk about what makes games great."
Despite the cancelation of E3, Geoff Keighley's Summer Fest and Sony's State of Play are filling the void E3 leaves behind. Typically, the next E3 date will be announced at the end of E3 at this time in June but ESA has yet to announce the date for next year.
