Crymachina teased by publisher FuRyu

Publisher FuRyu posted an image teasing their new project titled "Crymachina" with a sentence that translates asking "What is human?".

The company also opened a teaser site for Crymachina, and more information on the project should be revealed by March 2023.

The teaser site for Crymachina opened on February 22, 2023. At the moment, it just includes a blank screen with the game’s logo, a schedule for March 1, 2023 at 12pm JST, and a countdown. There are also platform logos for the PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.

Finally, the Crymachina teaser site asks a question in Japanese: “What is human?” Scrolling down leads to voiced answers from fourteen unnamed characters, ranging from “Humans are stupid,” to “Humans are confidential.” One answer even mangles the Japanese translation of a quote from the French philosopher Pascal, saying “Humans are a thinking reef.” The correct quote refers to man as a “thinking reed,” but the Japanese replaces the character for “reed” (“ashi”, or “葦”) with the character for “horse mackerel” (“aji”, or “鯵”).

A press release accompanying the opening of the teaser site refers to Crymachina as a a “completely new” title. The official Twitter account bills it as an action RPG. FuRyu itself is no stranger to high-concept RPG entries. It published the Caligula Effect games, as well as 2022’s Monark.

Crymachina is in development for PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch. A release date has not yet been announced.
