Co-op FPS Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Gets First Gameplay Trailer

First teased four months ago, upcoming co-op shooter Warhammer 40,000: Darktide has now gotten a gameplay trailer to show off its L4D-like take on the grimdark Warhammer 40k IP.

While the teaser showed off four Imperial Guardsmen and a horde of creepy nasties related to the plague god Nurgle, the gameplay trailer has a more colourful cast of characters facing off against hordes of Chaos cultists. Two of the characters still appear to be guardsmen, but they’re joined by a hulking Ogryn and a warhammer-toting priest.

Melee features rather heavily in the trailer, with chainswords and hammers making a mess of enemies, and resembles developer Fatshark’s Warhammer: Vermintide games. The shooting portions don’t show off any fancy weaponry like the teaser’s plasma gun, but the Ogryn’s shotgun and even the humble lasgun seem rather meaty. There’s also a satisfying amount of gore, and the environments look suitably dark and grim.

A specific release date hasn’t been revealed yet, but Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will drop sometime in 2021.
