Those looking forward to Bandai Namco's action RPG Scarlet Nexus will be able to get their hands on it in a few more months, as the game is dropping on June 25 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. Pre-orders are already available.
Announced in May 2020, the game sees an organisation of psychic warriors fighting against very weird-looking mutants called Others, which include giant monstrosities and literal walking bouquets, that drop from the sky and thirst for human brains. Players can take control of two psychokinetic heroes, the recruit Yuito Sumeragi and the notorious scout Kasane Randall, who can both engage in direct melee combat and use parts of the environment as weapons with their psychic powers.
Narrative-wise, the Steam page describes Scarlet Nexus as having a “dual story” where the interweaving of Yuito and Kasane’s experiences will “reveal the full story and unlock all the mysteries of a Brain Punk future”.
The post-apocalyptic urban environments look a bit drab, but the combat and enemy designs seem like they’ll be able to make up for it. Plus, with Kasane’s recent trailer (see above) indicating that she’s currently trying to kill Yuito, despite an earlier story trailer hinting that she saved him in the past, I'm interested in seeing how things unfold with the dual story structure.
For those who are interested in Scarlet Nexus’s story and character designs but not the gameplay, there’ll also be an anime produced by Sunrise that will get a global simultaneous release in the summer.
