5G is now official in Malaysia as Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) launched the coverage commercially today in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, and a few areas in Kuala Lumpur. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) on behalf of unifi Mobile and YTL Communications Sdn Bhd on behalf of YES are the first two operators in the country to provide 5G access.
unifi Mobile and YES users with 5G-compatible devices will now be able to enjoy an average speed of at least 100Mbps. The 5G services will cost lower than 4G services as the wholesale 5G services to the mobile network operators costs lesser. 5G will be available at these areas, according to DNB.
DNB aims to cover up to 80% of the populated area by the end of 2024. As of now, the four big telcos, Celcom, Maxis, Digi, and U Mobile have yet to announce their participation in the 5G user trial.
