Xiaomi has previewed its new 200W wired & 120W wireless fast charging technology, which it dubs Xiaomi HyperCharge and claims is capable of “new charging speed records”.
In a tech demo, Xiaomi shows how the former can charge up a custom build of the Mi 11 Pro with a 4,000mAh battery to 50% capacity in three minutes and 23 seconds and to 100% in eight minutes. Meanwhile, the 120W wireless fast charging tech is shown to be capable of bringing the custom Mi 11 Pro up to 50% in seven minutes and to full charge in 15 minutes.
It’s currently unknown when we’ll see Xiaomi’s 200W wired & 120W wireless fast charging tech become available commercially, but it’s certainly interesting to see the company aim for increasingly faster charging speeds. In October 2020, Xiaomi announced 80W Mi Wireless Charging technology, which was promoted as being able to fill a 4,000mAh battery to 50% in eight minutes and to 100% in 19 minutes. In 2019, it announced the 30W Mi Wireless Charging technology, which Xiaomi said could charge “a similar battery to 50% in about 25 minutes, and 100% in 69 minutes”.
Xiaomi has also been experimenting with other charging-related developments. In January 2021, it announced its Mi Air Charge technology, which only has a charging speed of 5W but allows for remote charging of multiple devices at once, with no need for charging stands and obstacles apparently having no impact on efficiency.
