Xiaomi has announced the MIUI 12.5, the latest version of its custom interface.
As reported by XDA Developers, the MIUI 12.5 update comes with privacy and security improvements, such as a prompt that informs users when an app tries to get clipboard data and the automatic ability for the Browser app to stop downloads from malicious websites respectively. Another privacy-protecting measure introduced with the new custom interface is the ability to provide a Coarse location rather than Fine location to apps.
The MIUI 12.5 will have improved optimization as well, with lower memory usage and power consumption. Super Wallpapers will require 40% less power, while GSMArena reports that background memory usage will be lower by an average of 35%.

There will also be some integration between Android phones and Windows PCs with MIUI+ on the MIUI 12.5. XDA Developers says that you will be able to see notifications from your phone on your laptop, copy and paste text from phone to laptop, use your laptop to access phone-stored files, and more. This feature will be limited to Mi 10 Ultra, Mi 10 Pro, Mi 10, Mi 9 Pro 5G, Mi 9, Redmi K30 Ultra, Redmi K20 Pro, and Redmi K30 Pro smartphones.
Aside from those features, there will be new live wallpapers and sounds. Gizmochina says that these include the Snow Mountain and Shipwreck Bay wallpapers along with animal sounds from locations like the Amazon and Arctic Circle.
The MIUI 12.5 will begin rolling out on stable channels in April 2021, although those in China can also try out the closed beta.
