Twitch Introduces New Local Subscription Pricing

Writer's picture: OliviaOlivia

Earlier this year, Twitch announced that it will be adjusting global prices in order to facilitate and support streamers from all around the world. The rollout of the local subscription pricing system began in Mexico and Turkey, which saw subscription prices adjusted to fit the local currency. Twitch has since revealed that the decision had its desired effect of increasing subscriber rates, and has now expanded the program to countries in other regions.

The next region to receive the updated pricing is the Asia Pacific region, which includes Malaysia. Malaysia used to have subscriptions priced at RM20.99, which has now been reduced to RM7.99. Twitch users in the Latin America, Middle East and Africa, and Europe regions can also expect to see the new pricings in their own currency soon.

The price of a Tier 1 subscription used to be roughly equivalent to US$4.99 in every country, which could be less affordable for many subscribers due to their countries’ currencies. According to Twitch, the percentage of active users in Europe or Asia who support creators with a subscription is roughly 50% lower relative to North America. In Latin America, it’s nearly 80% lower. The company hopes that the new change of pricing will be able to help creators grow their community and support more subscribers.
