The Game Awards, an event highlighting the best games in various categories will enter its ninth year in 2022. Since its launch in 2014, it has become a highly anticipated and celebrated event that rivals The Oscars or Emmys. New details about this year’s Game Awards have been revealed.
According to The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley, this year’s event will be held on 8 December at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
This year will also see a new award category: Best Adaptation. The award aims to recognise “creative work that authentically adapts video games intellectual property to other popular media, including but not limited to theatrical movies, streaming shows, podcasts, novels and comic books. This would mean adaptations like the Sonic 2 movie and the Halo TV show meet the requirements to be in this category.
More information about the event will be revealed in the coming months, including the category nominations. We can also expect many new announcement trailers at the show like in previous years.
