Tencent has opened a new office at Menara 1 Sentrum, marking a key milestone in its continued expansion in Malaysia. The move reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to the local digital ecosystem while positioning Malaysia as an important international hub supported by strong talent and infrastructure.

Since entering the market in 2013, Tencent has contributed to Malaysia’s growing digital economy across gaming, entertainment, payments, AI, and cloud services. In 2025, the company doubled its local workforce and is aiming for strong double-digit growth by 2026, with over 90% of its team comprising highly skilled professionals. The new office can accommodate up to 500 employees, providing room for future growth as Tencent’s global operations scale.

Strengthening Global Innovation with Local Impact

The new office will bring together Tencent’s Global Tech, Digital Innovation, and Customer Experience teams, consolidating key digital functions to strengthen its global operations while contributing to Malaysia’s tech ecosystem.

At the launch, Malaysia’s Minister of Digital, YB Gobind Singh Deo, highlighted that Tencent’s expansion reflects the nation’s growing digital economy and the strength of its talent pool. He welcomed the company’s continued investment and its role in fostering global collaboration.

Judy Wong, Country Manager of Tencent Malaysia, added that Malaysia’s solid digital infrastructure, supportive policies, and skilled workforce make it a prime location for innovation. She shared that the new office marks a new chapter where Tencent will further advance its Cloud and AI partnerships, support the country’s digital goals, encourage cross-border innovation, and cultivate local tech and creative talent.

Tencent Malaysia is broadening its partnerships and initiatives to support the country’s fast-growing digital ecosystem. At the new office launch, Tencent Cloud signed an MoU with Opensys Technologies and Boost to deploy PalmAI, fostering innovation collaborations locally.

Beyond cloud technology, Tencent is advancing cross-border growth in tourism, gaming, esports, and education. The integration of Weixin Pay with Malaysia’s DuitNow QR system has boosted transactions threefold during China’s Golden Week, while merchants like KLIA Express leverage Weixin Mini Programs to attract Chinese tourists, supporting the “Visit Malaysia 2026” campaign.

In esports and digital entertainment, Tencent continues to host major tournaments and creator-driven events, such as the inaugural Honor of Kings Nation Clash 2025, and partners with institutions like Claz’room College to mentor and train local talent. With Malaysia’s skilled workforce, strong digital infrastructure, and supportive policies, Tencent sees the country as a strategic hub for driving innovation, connectivity, and global digital experiences.
