Sony Launches New PS5 System Software Update

Sony has officially launched the second major system software update for the PS5, seeing enhancements like 3D audio support for built-in TV speakers, M.2 SSD storage expansion, PS Remote Play without Wi-Fi, and more.

The new 3D audio support feature "transforms standard two-channel TV speaker audio into three-dimensional sound, heightening the sense of gameplay immersion", once enabled. Players will be able to control the acoustics of their room using the built-in microphone on the DualSense wireless controller. For those who own a Pulse 3D Wireless Headset, they can tweak the audio in a new equalizer settings panel.

With the new update, PS5 players can expand their storage capacity with an M.2 SSD in the PS5 console or PS5 Digital Edition console. However, players must make sure the M.2 SSD and the cooling structure meet the minimum performance and size requirements.

With the PS Remote Play app, players will still be able to play PS4 and PS5 games even without a Wi-Fi connection. Sony recommends broadband internet with at least 5 Mbps speed to use the app and 15 Mbps speed for the best experience.

Another upcoming major feature is the Share Screen feature, which will allow players to stream a game from a friend's PS5 in the PS App on iOS or Android. Friends will be able to tune in to the broadcast simply by joining the party voice chat.

Additionally, Sony has added a new Trophy Tracker that lets players access up to five trophies per game through the Control Center.
