Sony brought its TV tech to CES 2022, introducing the world's first consumer QD-OLED TV - the Bravia XR A95K - that will come in 65" and 55" sizes with 4K resolution.
QD-OLED (also known as Quantum Dot OLED) combines the best features of OLED and the benefits of quantum dot LED TVs such as enhanced brightness and more vivid color reproduction at higher brightness levels.
The Bravia XR A95K has a unique stand that can put the display in both front and back position style. In the front position style, the display is placed in front the stand while the back position lets you put the TV up against a wall. It offers 4 HDMI inputs including two HDMI 2.1 ports. The display supports 4K gaming at 120Hz, auto HDR tone mapping when connected to a PS5, and auto low latency mode.
In addition, Sony has announced its first mini LED LCD TVs consisting of the Master Series Z9K and the Premium X95K. The Z9K series offers 8K resolution in 75" and 85" models while the X95K comes with 4K resolution in 65", 75", and 85" sizes.
As mini LED displays will have blooming where visible halo will appear around bright objects on a dark screen, Sony claims its XR Backlight Master Drive technology can intelligently control the mini LED backlight to avoid blooming without reducing the brightness of the content on-screen. The mini LED TVs also support 4K gaming at 120Hz, auto HDR tone mapping when connected to a PS5, and auto low latency mode. Sony is also shipping these TVs with variable refresh rate support out of the box.
