Sony Announces Partnership with Discord

Sony has announced a new partnership with Discord, with planned PlayStation integration to begin next year.

“Together, our teams are already hard at work connecting Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network,” said the announcement. “Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together.”

Aside from indicating that Discord will arrive on the PlayStation Store, Sony also revealed that it had made a minority investment as part of Discord’s Series H round.

The announcement comes after Discord halted takeover talks with Microsoft in late April, with Bloomberg reporting that the former had rejected a US$12 billion (~RM49.4 billion) bid. Twitter was also said to be interested in buying the company.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Discord’s talks with Microsoft could be revived in the future, while Bloomberg wrote that the company was currently “focused on a potential public listing in the long term”.
