When it comes to foldable phones, one of the nitpicks that tech enthusiasts have is the crease right in the middle of the interior display. However, that might change for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Fold 5.

According to a South Korean news outlet, it was reported that Samsung could be planning to integrate a new “water droplet” type display structure for the Galaxy Z Fold 5. This means that there would be a new type of “dumbbell” type hinge, allowing the display to curl into a water droplet shape inside the phone to form a wide fold.

This will allow the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s interior display to close completely without any space or hole in between when folded. For reference, all the previous Samsung foldable devices have been using a “u-shaped” structure which has been said to be prone to damage in the long term.
Samsung is expected to introduce the new Galaxy Z Fold series in the third quarter of the year.
