During the Galaxy Unpacked event last night, Samsung has officially announced the company's first smartwatches featuring the new Wear OS, co-developed by Samsung and Google - the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic.

The Galaxy Watch4 series features Samsung's 3-in-1 BioActive sensor designed smaller and more compact without compromising its measurement accuracy. It also has a body composition feature that measures users' skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate, body water, and body fat percentage. The sensor will be able to capture 2400 data points in just 15 minutes.

The new smartwatches are compatible with Samsung's smart TVs so owners can view their calorie counts and heart rate metrics on a bigger screen. For sleep tracking, users can pair the Galaxy Watch4 with a compatible smartphone. The smartphone will detect the sounds of snores while the smartwatch will measure users' blood oxygen level when they sleep.

Equipped with Samsung's One UI Watch interface, the Galaxy Watch4 series will automatically install apps that are downloaded on a compatible smartwatch. Settings such as 'do not disturb hours' and 'blocked callers' will also be synced instantly. The Auto Switch feature allows users to easily toggle the audio between their smartphone and the smartwatch. Additionally, there are features like the Bixby voice, bezel, and gesture controls for a full smartwatch experience.

The Galaxy Watch4 series comes with Google's Wear OS platform gives users direct access to Google apps like Google Maps and Galaxy services such as Samsung Pay, SmartThings, and Bixby. Third-party apps that are on users' smartphones will also appear on the smartwatch, including Adidas Running, Calm, Strava, and Spotify.

Both models pack the Exynos W920 processor in 5nm, 1.5 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, and graphics tenfold faster than the previous generation. Both feature a 450 x 450 pixels resolution for crisper and more distinctive visuals. In addition, the Galaxy Watch4 series houses a 247 mAh battery which can last for 40 hours. A 30-minute charge can juice up to 10 hours of battery life.

The aluminum Galaxy Watch4 will be available in 40 mm and 44 mm configurations. The 40 mm variant will come in black, pink gold, and silver. Meanwhile, the 44 mm variant will come in black, green, and silver. On the other hand, the stainless steel Galaxy Watch4 Classic will be available in 42 mm and 46 mm configurations. Both variants will come in black and silver.
