Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra - Unboxing and First Impressions

It's been quite some time since we reviewed a tablet and the last one we tested was a Samsung device. This time, we got our hands on another Samsung tablet but a way more powerful one - the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.

Right on to unboxing. Since the tablet ships in a pretty thin box, we don't expect a bundled charger and we're right. Removing the lid, you'll find another box inside with the tablet underneath it, wrapped in a protective fabric material. Taking out the tablet, there's the S Pen and a box of accessories with documentation and a (strangely white) USB-C to USB-C cable in it as well as a tucked SIM ejector.

Interestingly, the other box stores a magnetic stand and a book cover keyboard, both of which can be easily attached to the tablet. The book cover is complete with a full-sized keyboard and a wide touchpad. The Tab S8 Ultra only comes in a single Graphite or black color option so we wonder why would Samsung provide a white cable. Anyway, setting up the tablet with the stand and keyboard is effortless and they click in place just nice.

In portrait orientation, you'll see two speaker grilles and a microphone whereas another two speaker grilles and the charging port are located at the bottom. The power button, volume rocker, a second microphone, and a SIM card slot are on the right. On the left are magnets that allow the tablet to attach to the keyboard.

Housed in a notch on the front display is a dual-camera system, which includes a 12MP wide camera and a 12MP ultra wide camera. The notch won't even bother you since the screen is so huge you probably won't even take notice of it.

On the back, there's also a dual-camera module comprising a 13MP camera with autofocus and a 6MP ultra wide camera, sitting along with a third microphone and a flashlight on a small bump.

Aligned with the camera island is a black bar for charging the S Pen when it magnetically clicks into place on the tablet. You'll see a simple Samsung branding below the charging bar from a vertical position. At the other end, there's the "Sound by AKG" logo, indicating that the quad-speaker array is tuned by AKG.

The S8 Ultra greets with a massive 14.6" display, which likens it to the size of a laptop, except it's slimmer and lighter. The Super AMOLED display comes with a 2960 x 1848 resolution, 240 ppi density, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The bezels on all four sides are also visibly slimmer, resulting in a higher screen-to-body ratio for a more enjoyable viewing experience.

In terms of specs, it features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and an 11,200mAh battery. It offers 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which can be expanded up to 1TB with a microSD card. With a tablet this huge in size, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra can function just like your working laptop for reading documents, drawing, watching Netflix, and gaming. We can't wait to test it already so stay tuned to our full review.

In the meantime, you can visit Samsung's official website for more information about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. If you purchase it, you'll get everything we mentioned above along with a free pouch bag in which you can keep the tablet for protection.
