Design
In my review unit of the ROG Falchion RX Low Profile, I have receive silver and white chassis that exudes a modern aesthetic and feels superb in the hand. When the RGB lighting is paired with the available white and silver color scheme, the Low Profile exhibits a sophisticated and sleek appearance.
While the keyboard is predominantly made of plastic, the overall robustness is noteworthy. It exhibits no deck flex, making it a very sturdy keyboard, especially considering its compact size. The metal top plate not only adds a touch of style but also reinforces its durability. The small metal bar displaying 'Republic Of Gamers' across the top is a simple yet effective design element. Asus has adopted a functional and space-saving 65 percent layout, eliminating the function row, most of the nav cluster, and the number pad to prioritize the keys you're likely to use.
Furthermore, while embracing a more condensed layout with retained functionality, the ROG Falchion RX Low Profile features dual-printed keycaps catering to both Windows and Mac users.
Protective cover
To enhance its versatility, the Falchion RX Low Profile comes with a practical travel cover. This thoughtful addition not only adds a layer of protection to the keyboard but also ensures day-to-day defense against common adversaries such as dust, scratches, and general wear and tear; making it an ideal companion for those on the go.
Whether in transit or stationed on a desk, the inclusion of this travel cover underscores the keyboard's commitment to user-friendly functionality and durability, making it a practical and stylish choice for those who prioritize both form and function in their peripherals.
Key Switches
The keyboard I received is equipped with Red Low-Profile Switches, featuring a 1.0 mm actuation point for rapid input. The initial actuation force has been finely tuned to 40 gf to minimize inadvertent keystrokes, while extending to 55 gf for optimal rebound feedback. Consequently, keystrokes are instantaneous, delivering a seamless and linear experience.
The RX Low Profile Reds exhibit a responsive feel under the fingertips, making them a joy to use for both work and composing reviews. Their quiet key taps contribute to a focused and serene workspace, promoting productivity. These switches come with lubricated stems, stabilizers, and springs, ensuring a smoother click feel and eliminating any spring bouncing noises. The thoughtful engineering behind these switches enhances the overall typing experience, making it not only efficient but also acoustically pleasant.
Ports and Top Features
The ROG Falchion RX Low Profile presents an interesting approach to adjusting volume or RGB lighting intensity. Instead of dedicating specific keys for these functions, Asus has chosen a versatile multi-function slider located on the top side. This slider seamlessly handles media playback, RGB lighting adjustments, and volume control. This practical feature proves to be effective in the absence of dedicated keys or dials, providing a streamlined and efficient user experience. Additionally, users have the flexibility to customize the lighting key colors through Asus's proprietary Armoury Crate Application.
Situated on the far left side adjacent to the Esc key, there is a button that cycles through various functions provided by the slider. This includes switches for connectivity modes, allowing seamless toggling between Windows and MacOS modes to support different operating systems.
It is also equipped the ROG Falchion RX Low Profile with a comprehensive range of wireless connectivity options, including the Speednova USB wireless receiver and Bluetooth. Establishing a connection through either method is remarkably convenient, and seamlessly switching between paired devices is simplified through the physical switches located on the back of the keyboard, enabling users to effortlessly toggle between Bluetooth and the wireless receiver. Additionally, the keyboard supports USB-C connectivity, allowing it to be utilized while charging.
ROG Omni Receiver
Positioned at the rear of the keyboard, the detachable ROG Omni receiver offers the flexibility to be conveniently placed and plugged into your device anywhere on the go. This device enables a wireless connection to both a compatible keyboard and a compatible mouse simultaneously, using just one USB receiver, without any compromise in performance.
Verdict
The Asus ROG Falchion RX Low Profile stands out as an excellent low-profile gaming keyboard, boasting stylish aesthetics, responsive switches, and dependable wireless connectivity.
Personally, I am particularly drawn to its design, finding it aesthetically pleasing and ranking it among my favorite keyboard designs. Its portability is a significant advantage, making it convenient to carry around. The keyboard's quiet operation is especially noteworthy, making it an ideal choice for use in noise-sensitive environments, such as my family house, ensuring comfortable typing during late-night hours.
