HONOR Magic5 Pro
Price: RM4299
The HONOR Magic5 Pro was revealed during the HONOR MWC 2023 alongside HONOR’s flagship foldable smartphone, the HONOR Magic Vs. The Magic5 Pro boasts its powerful triple main camera system which provides a true flagship smartphone experience. With that being said, let’s dive into the HONOR Magic5 Pro.
Design
The most notable thing about HONOR Magic5 Pro is the Star Wheel Triple Camera module, containing three outstanding Eye of Muse camera placements which are inspired by the first image of the black hole at the center of the milky way.
The Magic5 Pro comes in two color options in Malaysia: Black and Meadow Green, my reviewing unit being the latter. As you can see, the Magic5 Pro Meadow Green sports a curved glass back with matte and rich glittering as a finish which keeps fingerprints at bay meaning that you wouldn’t need a case for it.
Display
The front of the Magic5 Pro is equipped with a 6.81-inch LTPO Display with a unique Quad-Curved Floating Screen, providing an immersive viewing experience for users to play with. Aside from that, the display also comes with an FHD+ (2848 x 1312) resolution which supports up to 120Hz refresh rate.
Another good thing about the display would be the 2160Hz High-Frequency PWM Dimming with the TÜV Rheinland Circadian Friendly Certification, which offers much protection for your eyes.
Most importantly, given how impressive the display is, the Magic5 Pro has ascended to #1 place in the DXOMARK display ranking.
Camera
Apart from the display, the Magic5 Pro also ranked first in the DXOMARK camera ranking, with 152 points. The triple-camera setup houses a 50MP Wide Camera (f/1.6, OIS), a 50MP Ultra Wide Camera (f/2.0), and a 50MP Periscope Telephoto Camera (f/3.0, 3.5x Optical Zoom, OIS)
What makes the Magic5 Pro the best smartphone camera is the HONOR Falcon Camera System. It allows you to capture anything without hesitation due to how fast the AI Motion Sensing Capture is.
Aside from the Falcon Camera System, here are some everyday pictures taken on the Magic5 Pro with Night and Default Photo modes.
The Night mode is as good as expected on the Magic5 Pro, it doesn’t need a long processing time while taking low-light photography thanks to its powerful processing unit.
Performance
The Magic5 Pro is powered by a quad-chip, integrated with the flagship Snapdragon 8 gen 2, HONOR C1 RF Enhanced Chipset, Discrete Security Chipset, and Discrete Display Chipset, providing an absolute flagship experience on the Magic5 Pro.
Unsurprisingly, the Magic5 Pro's 12GB RAM + 512GB ROM will be more than enough to meet the demands of the age of rapid technological advancement.
The Magic5 Pro scores 998058 on Antutu Benchmark, which is on par with some of the smartphones using Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. When the performance mode is enabled, the score skyrockets to 1203087. Perhaps the balanced mode conserves battery power, resulting in a lower score.
(Balanced mode / Performance mode)
As for the Genshin Impact game test on the Magic5 Pro, as expected, the game is able to run smoothly on the highest graphics settings with a little bit of stuttering while the device heats up without burning your fingers.
One of the most notable features of the MagicOS 7.1 is the Magic Text feature. It allows you to select any text from pictures and screenshots to save it on the clipboard. This feature comes in handy when you don’t have time to jot down the numbers or some information (eg. lecture notes) in a hurry.
On top of that, the MagicOS 7.1 Notes Save Offline feature let you save a whole website article/e-book for availability offline. To use this feature, simply take a screenshot with three fingers and it will automatically save all the text in the article. Still, a useful feature for students.
Speaking of the sustainability the Magic5 Pro offers, it houses a massive 5100 mAh battery capacity. Unfortunately, the Magic5 Pro only supports 66W SuperCharge whereas its predecessor Magic4 Pro supports 100W SuperCharge. And for wireless charging, the Magic5 Pro supports up to a max of 50W Wireless SuperCharge.
Buy or no buy?
To sums everything up, the HONOR Magic5 Pro is a solid flagship device that promises to give you the best experience in many fields such as mobile photography, and gaming, as well as user-oriented features on the MagicOS 7.1.
Despite HONOR Magic5 Pro no longer supporting 100W SuperCharge like its predecessor, the upgrades like quad-chip, HONOR’s Falcon Camera System, LTPO display, large battery life and more surely make up for its loss.
