HONOR Malaysia has released the latest HONOR 90 Series in Malaysia, claiming the top-tier mid-range smartphone with 200MP Super Sensing Camera System to bring Malaysian consumers top-notch mobile photography experiences. Also, the HONOR 90 5G boasts the industry-first 3840Hz PWM Dimming technology to help protect users' eye health while using the device. Design
The HONOR 90 5G is available in three colour variants, Diamond Silver, Emerald Green, and Peacock Blue. Today, our reviewing unit will be the HONOR 90 5G in Diamond Silver. Personally, min min has a soft spot for light colors as they are comfortable to look at and blend well with many combinations. Hence, if you prefer an elegant design, the Diamond Silver variant of the HONOR 90 5G is the one to go for.
If you look closely at the back, you'll notice different textures and finishes around the branding "HONOR AI MATRIX CAMERA 200MP 1/1.4 1:1.9 ASPH." Additionally, there is a glossy finish around the camera module which collects your fingerprint so it might take a little effort to clean it occasionally.
Display
The HONOR 90 5G features a 6.7-inch AMOLED Quad Curved Floating Display with 435 PPI, offering vividly bright and detailed viewing experiences in contrast to the other mid-range devices in the competition.
Furthermore, it is also the industry-first smartphone with the 3840Hz ultra-high frequency PWM dimming technology which is TÜV Rheinland Flicker-free certified. The HONOR 90 5G is even faster than its flagship model HONOR Magic5 Pro which sports a 2160Hz PWM dimming.
That's not all, the HONOR 90 5G equips with a selection of eye protection technologies such as Circadian Night Display & Dynamic Dimming that automatically adjusts the most optimal screen brightness and colours to prevent eye strains and dryness after prolonged usage.
Camera
The HONOR 90 5G houses a 200MP Super Sensing Camera, a 12MP Ultra Wide / Macro Camera, a 2MP Depth Camera triple rear camera module, and a 50MP Front Wide Camera. Its main camera is supported by a 1/1.4-inch CMOS sensor which is 25% larger and increases light sensing ability by 14% when compared to the widely used mid-range sensor IMX890.
That being said, the HONOR 90 5G is able to capture stunning pictures at night with most of the details remaining clear and sharp, and the bright area of the image won't extensively glow around the edges of the subject.
Night
The same goes for the pictures taken during the day, the color tone appears soft and accurate. And, you can see the outline of the group of clouds in the moody sky, adding a captivating element to the overall picture. Definitely a great smartphone for capturing everyday moments!
Performance
In terms of performance, the HONOR 90 5G uses the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Accelerated Edition 5G (4nm) processor and Adreno 644 GPU, paired with 12GB RAM + 7GB (HONOR RAM Turbo) and 512GB ROM. As I've tested the HONOR 90 5G on AnTuTu Benchmark (V10.0.1-OB1), resulting in an above-average score compared to other mid-range devices, which is 609, 250. However, when the Performance Mode is activated, the benchmark result increases to 705, 340, resulting in higher power consumption.
The battery life only drains for about 10% (82% to 72%) after playing Genshin Impact on Medium Settings, 60 fps, Performance Mode + Game mode which is acceptable since I won't be spending much time on mobile games, the HONOR 90 5G also don't heats up much during the gaming session.
After that, I switched to play Honkai: Star Rail on Medium settings 60 fps. Surprisingly, it runs smoothly during combat, bursting skills, and exploring the "half" open world. Besides, I also switched on the Game Filters to colourful under the Game Mode to enhance my gameplay experience even more.
The HONOR 90 5G is equipped with a 5000 mAh battery that can easily last a whole day unless it is extensively used for gaming. It supports exceptional 66W HONOR SuperCharge capabilities that charge up the device from 62 % to 100% in just 25 minutes.
Buy or no buy?
In short, the HONOR 90 5G is the standout choice among mid-range devices I've reviewed so far. In particular, I liked the Game Filter feature on HONOR devices which enriches the contrast of the game to make them more enjoyable. Aside from that, the 120Hz AMOLED display ensures seamless navigation and quick app launches, enhancing the overall user experience, making it a highly favourable device in the mid-range market.
