Qualcomm Announces New Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

Qualcomm announced today the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It’ll be the successor to their premium tier of chips, the predecessor being the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 which can be found in phones like the Samsung Galaxy S22, Oppo Find X5 Pro and other similarly high-end commercial devices.

Qualcomm says the improved Adreno GPU found in the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip will provide up to 10% faster speed and 30% power reduction in order to deliver a much improved gaming experience. On top of that, an additional 60 minutes of gameplay time can be expected with the improved power efficiencies. Paired with the GPU is their Kryo CPU which boasts up to 10% faster processing speeds and another 30% improvement in power efficiency.

Most of the chip’s other features are similar to the original Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 10Gbps of theoretical 5G and 8K HDR video capture with support for HDR10+ format.

Qualcomm also announced the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. With an improved Adreno GPU, Qualcomm expects 20% faster graphics rendering and the doubling of frame rates while maintaining the same power consumption using the Adreno Frame Motion Engine. The platform also supports Quad HD+ Display and amplified audio.

Other features included in this chip include Deep Learning Face Detect, which uses AI for more accurate face recognition even while wearing a mask, Trust Management Engine and Android Ready SE, for better safety and protection of users’ information, and Snapdragon Sound.
