Onimusha anime will debut on Netflix

The anime series based on the Capcom video game Onimusha has been made available on Netflix.

The announcement came during the TUDUM on September 24, 2022. Musashi Miyamoto is modelled by Toshiro Mifune in the anime, which was written by Takashi Miike and Shinya Sugai of the Sublimation team, according to Netflix.

Netflix describes, “The beginning of the Edo period, Musashi is no longer a young man. He departs with the legendary Oni Gauntlet to defeat the Genma. 3D CGI characters and hand-drawn backgrounds create phenomenal visuals. Onimusha is given a new life using modern-day animation technology.”

Action and survival game Onimusha is set in the Sengoku era of Japan (1467 - 1603). The game also features a number of mystical elements, which we may expect to see in the Netflix anime. The 2019 Onimusha: Warlords remaster is the most recent title. Here are the first visuals:

However, it's not the first time a video game has been turned into an animated product; in fact, the 2006 computer-generated film Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams was created by combining the CG scenes from the game of the same name for the PlayStation 2 and adding new scenes.
