No Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 This Year, Expect Warcraft Mobile Games Instead

Blizzard’s Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4 are on their way, but don’t expect either of them to be out by this year.

As reported by PC Gamer, Activision Blizzard revealed in a quarterly financial call that a 2021 launch for those sequels isn’t expected to happen. "We expect Blizzard's net booking to grow, given the momentum in World of Warcraft and the other growth initiatives we have in the business," Chief Financial Officer Dennis Durkin said during the call. "Our outlook does not include Diablo 4 or Overwatch 2 launching in 2021."

Both games were announced in 2019, with trailers and gameplay videos released the same year.

A game that could be released this year is mobile title Diablo Immortal, which Blizzard is co-developing with Netease Entertainment. In the same call, Durkin said that the company anticipates its launch "later this year”, but added that it doesn’t “have any material contribution from the title in our outlook presently”.

Release dates aside, the call revealed the existence of not one, but several free-to-play Warcraft mobile games, which are “now in advanced development”.

On the Warcraft mobile games, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said, “This will create opportunities for both existing players and new fans to experience the Warcraft universe in entirely new ways.”
